The picture quality results were surprising for a fairly budget printer. We pushed the SELPHY CP780 very hard by forcing it to produce highly detailed, contrasty shots with vibrant and subtle colours. It was a little nerve racking watching the colours being laid down and we were dubious it would manage to do our shots justice.
Nonetheless, the final result was extraordinary good. You could slightly spot the grain in case you looked intensly and closely at the prints in day-light, and the apparent resolution was very impressive.
Our only remark could be with the blacks. These might have been a bit more contrasty. With a color picture this is not such a great deal, but whe you would like to print black and white images they appeared slighly pale due to the lack of a separate black ink layer.The only drawback of using this quite specialised SELPHY printer is the availability and price of the colour ink cassettes. The cartridges are not widely available, but the below shops have them on stock:

PRINT COST

The photos cost 30 cents each. And it´s taking about 47 seconds on average to finish a 4-by-6-inch snapshot. Compared to the like-priced competition, it´s quicker than the HP Photosmart compact home photo printer A646, which takes 60 seconds and which photos come to 34 cents apiece.
